Venice has born some of the most talented artists the world has seen – Tintoretto, Titian, Canaletto, and of course, composer Monteverdi, while the contemporary art world has witnessed the rise of Federico de Majo. Coming from a family of Murano glassmakers, he longed to continue that craft, celebrating the coming together of Italy’s great traditions of haute cuisine, wine production and inherent sense of design and culture. Influenced by the atmosphere, architecture, and colours of its unique lagoon location, Venice has played a major role in his art of breathing life into glass. Following the untimely death of his father, de Majo took the family glassworks from strength to strength, experimenting with new techniques, and learning from other artists and designers. He eventually moved away from the family business and started developing and establishing a modern lighting brand, whilst following his original passion of combining haute cuisine and Venetian culture, creating high quality tableware using traditional methods.
